FIRST MEETING- OCTOBER 24TH
Current Travel Dates- June 7th through the 16th
Current Group Size- 21
Today we are going to talk about the COVID protocols and how to get a passport among other things. This page will be the update page for all trip information. Other topics included will be possible fundraising dinners our trip theme and more-
1. My recent Rome experience- Two weeks ago I spent 4 and a half days in Rome. I want to remind you that in the current state of the pandemic that things will change and have been changing quickly. That being said thing went very smoothly in regards to my experiences a couple of weeks ago. I was required to be vaccinated to travel into the EU and Italy and specific to Italy as we were still having surging numbers at the time with the Delta variant I was required to have a negative test 72 hours prior to my arrival. At my time of departure I was also required to have a passenger locator form filled out that had my hotel and flight information noted. This was for possible need for contact tracing. Now with numbers going down those things could and will certainly change by June. Another requirement by the US is to have a negative test 72 hours prior to leaving the country and returning to the US. We took that test in hotel and had the results back for the whole group within an hour. This process went well also as not a single person tested positive.
We were required to where masks while traveling in the coach and indoors and different venues. The Vatican and the Vatican museums were open to visitors with restricted numbers. You had to where a mask in the Vatican and show either your negative test results or vaccination card. The high light for me was that I have never seen Sistine chapel with such few crowds. It was an amazing view! The restaurants and hotels also required masking. The whole experience went very well.
2. If for some reason the Covid situation gets worse or you feel uncomfortable to travel in June we will have have a back up trip planned for 2023. I will not rerun this trip but you could join one of my 2023 tours- London spring break or Peru summer both in 2023. If EF has to cancel the trip they will also give you the option for a refund minus operating fees (which I think are $250)
3. Take a look at the meeting schedule and check for conflicts or questions that you might have.
4. Our trip does require a passport. Here are the directions to get one-
Passport information- a passport is required for entry into Europe and England. If you do not have a passport you must follow the steps below. If you have a passport please check to make sure it will still be valid during our travel dates. To be safe it should have at least a year left in the book prior to our arrival home on June 18th 2020.
for this. Between the ages of 14 and 17 you must appear in person with a parent.
D. Have two passport photos- 2X2- they must be identical (post office does this for a fee as does Walgreens and other places in town)
Pay Fee- Adults- 110$ application fee with a 25$ execution fee. I am not sure if our post office takes credit cards but I am fairly certain
that they take personal checks. The application fee is payable to the “Department of State” and the execution fee is made payable to the
postmaster (I believe). They will let you know.
Provide social security number on the form.

Things to do in Paris and Possible Safety Protocols for London, Paris, and Rome
2-20-22
Today we are going to go over the COVID safety Protocols and look at things to do in Paris-
March 27th Meeting- Final Travel Dates, Florence and More!!
Today we are going to talk about- Final tour Dates!!! They are June 6th through June 15th!!! We should get our flights in 6 to 8 weeks and we should get COVID protocols a couple of weeks before our trip- I suspect there will be changes but it is hard to know- I'll keep you posted.
Tour Director Your Tour Director is responsible for all the logistics of your tour. They will coordinate details including bus transportation, accommodations, meals and special excursions. Your Tour Director will also show you the highlights of your destinations and can recommend free time activities. Additionally, your Tour Director will be with you throughout the tour and is trained to handle any challenging situations or emergencies that may arise.
Tipping It’s customary to tip your Tour Director and coach drivers as a token of appreciation. We recommend: - $6 per person per day for your Tour Director - $3 per person per day for your coach driver We suggest you deposit the tip money into your bank account and withdraw it in local currency, then present it to your Tour Director and bus driver in tip envelopes provided by EF.
Currency Most European countries use the euro for their currency. The exceptions are: the Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the UK. Visit xe.com for more currency information. We recommend using debit and credit cards to access money while abroad and discourage the use of traveler’s checks. Be sure to notify your bank or credit card company that you will be traveling abroad and ask what international fees you may have to pay. You should plan on approximately $40-$60 per day for spending money, which should cover bottled water, lunches, souvenirs, some free time activities and special excursions offered by the Tour Director.
Transportation Groups typically travel by motorcoach between destinations, as well as on sightseeing tours and excursions included by EF. Some itineraries may also include internal flights or travel by train, cruise ship or ferry. When traveling to local activities or free time options, groups generally find it easier to use public transportation, which is another great way to experience the local culture. Your Tour Director will help you learn the maps and routes.
Accommodations Hotels in Europe are often not as modern, big or standardized as they are in North America. Rooms seldom have air conditioning or televisions, and not all European hotels have elevators. Students under the age of 20 will share rooms with two or three other travelers of the same gender in rooms that contain single or shared double beds, or a combination of the two. Students may share rooms with students in the tour group who are not from their own school. Adults will share twin rooms with other adults of the same gender. Adults may share rooms with adults in the tour group who are not from their own school. Groups may not all be roomed next to each other and may be on different floors, and some hotels may be located outside of the city center.
Packing You should pack light and only bring as much as will fit in one suitcase and your EF backpack. Many airlines now charge for additional luggage. You will be responsible for loading your luggage on and off buses and into hotels. If your tour includes a transfer by night train, please be aware that the bunk bed-style accommodations provide little storage space for luggage. We recommend you carry valuables, medications and an extra change of clothes in your EF backpack, which you can use as your carry-on for the flight.
Travel documents U.S. citizens traveling to Europe must have a passport valid for six months after their expected return date (eight months if traveling to Turkey). Also, you must hold proof of return (your e-ticket receipt will suffice). Entry visas are not required for Europe, with the exception of Russia. This visa should be obtained prior to tour and we recommend using visacentral.com/efvisas where EF travelers will receive a discount. Please check travel.state.gov to confirm passport validity requirements prior to your tour. Citizens of all other countries should contact their appropriate embassies to find out what specific documentation is required for them to travel.
Phones and Internet It’s easy to buy an international phone card in Europe to make phone calls home, and your Tour Director can help you find places to buy them. If you plan to use your personal cell phone on tour, contact your wireless provider to see what fees you may incur for calling, texting or using data abroad. Wi-Fi is not available at all hotels in Europe and when it is available there is often a fee.
Local food You should expect food and portion size to be different than what you are accustomed to at home. Breakfast typically includes cereal, bread or rolls, jam, juice, coffee and tea. Lunch is your chance to make culinary discoveries on your own. Included dinners will be a mix of familiar dishes and local specialties all served from a pre-set group menu. Water in Europe is safe to drink and table water is always provided free of charge.
Safety Petty theft and pick-pocket incidents have been known to occur in areas frequented by tourists. As a precaution, we recommend that you refrain from carrying large amounts of cash or wearing jewelry, and that you keep your valuables in your hotel room’s safe or at the safe at the front desk. When you are out in a city, it’s a good idea to keep your passport and spending money in a money belt that can be worn under your clothes. Never leave your bags, cameras, backpacks or other belongings unattended. Always inform your Tour Director if you should need to break away from the group at any point. . Please be sure to read EF’s Safety Handbook before going on tour
