Street Food Beijing

One of my favorite things to do while visiting different places to check out the food.  The street food in China is delightful.  Below you will hear our students reactions to viewing and in some cases trying these new foods.  You will also be able to see some of these foods in this section and in the section written about the Muslim Quarter in Xian.  I have included some of the more exotic foods we saw as well as some of the more standard fare.  This is just a quick look into a small sample of the street foods we saw in Beijing.

“Exploring the street food area was interesting.  It was crazy busy and had lots of interesting smells.  I lived through the chaos and appreciate the culture I experienced.”

“I wished we could have spent more time there because there were so many interesting things to see and taste.”

“I was not to excited to see sparrows on a stick.  This made me a little sad.”
Anna

“I usually have a very weak sense of smell but even I couldn’t handle some of the stuff I was smelling the deeper I made it back into the market streets.  It really wasn't my thing.”

“I wasn’t quite ready to see live scorpions on a stick before they were deep fried.”
Mia

“I was surprised by the numbers of different insects that were available to eat including scorpions!”

'i was amazed by the variety of food choices and the number of people shopping and dining on this street.  i am not sure if this is regular dining or just an unusual place to visit and dine on the edge.'
